Nikola Tesla's Turbine

Nikola Tesla developed an engine of this type in the early 1900's. The Tesla boundary layer disk turbine was first developed for steam power and later for direct combustion.

While promising, Tesla's engine was never fully developed nor fully used on a wide scale basis.
