Release Date: December 27, 2005 New Power from Crude: Zero Refinement RequiredPNGinc's new consulting service to slash electrical energy expenses at tar sands operations, oil refineries
Munising, MI - "I can burn crude oil as cleanly as a power company can burn natural gas." So began PNGinc's CEO Ken Rieli as he announced the company's new consulting service aimed at producing on-site electricity directly from tar sands. At the center of their solution is the company's Phoenix UCB Ultra-Clean Burner technology. As recoverable oil supplies are exhausted, oil companies are forced to exploit less profitable options. Right about now, Canada's vast tar sands fields represent their last great hope. However, development of these oil-laden sands consumes huge amounts of energy - and as supplies on the surface dwindle, companies have to look deeper underground. Already, natural gas & electricity accounts for 30% to 50% of total operating costs. Facing pressure from new government regulations on emissions, the industry now has to consider the environmental impact of any co-generators they install to mitigate growing energy costs. The challenge to cut costs and meet new pollution mandates is what PNGinc's technical solution does best. Their high-efficiency co-generation system is designed around the Phoenix UCB Ultra-Clean Burner technology. Rieli's design uses heat recovery techniques to produce a highly efficient combustion system that generates electricity from tar sand on site. Latent heat can be used for facility heating or refinery process heat. Amazingly, the UCB component is able to extract & combust fuels locked in oil sands -- or oil shale, coal and crude oil -- with no preprocessing required. Oil sands enter the furnace as raw material, then exit as cleanly stripped combustibles. "Since the Phoenix UCB operates on raw materials, it's more efficient and less expensive than going through the unnecessary steps of processing fuels," says Rieli. "And it burns any carbon material at such a high efficiency point, no carbon particulates are emitted." PNGinc's consulting service includes concept design, project set up & management -- and opens the door to licensing opportunities for companies seeking clean, new power solutions. # # # |
