Myth #1: A fuel cell is not a internal combustion engine. If you don't believe there is combustion going on inside a fuel cell, try operating one without its cooling system. The plastic components of PEMs will melt in short order. Combustion is the oxygenation of carbon, hydrogen or any element that combines with oxygen. In a fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen to form water.
Myth #2: Fuel cells don't pollute.Fuel cells have a finite life cycle. Spent fuel cells will exacerbate landfill problems with plastic and toxic chemical waste.
The hydrogen used in a fuel cell is typically derived from fossil fuels.
Even fuel cells that run on hydrogen derived from renewable power CANNOT clean the air!
This carbon PM (emitted by diesel engines, coal-fired power plants, commercial aircraft and industry) is responsible for untold deaths and chronic diseases. - Our turbines render these cancer-causing toxins harmless to earth's inhabitants. NOT a MythThere is much more potential in using the Phoenix Pulse Detonation Turbines in vehicles than using fuel cells. Because our low-cost Phoenix PDT's projected efficiencies are so high, this turbine will be the fuel cell's direct competition.
